Part-time (Entry level)

Axcadmy is a hands-on blacksmithing studio offering immersive axe, knife, and metalworking workshops for beginners, groups, and corporate teams. We’re looking for a part-time Assistant Blacksmith to support our workshops and learn the craft in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

This is the starting point for most team members. You’ll work closely with the instructors to support participants, keep the workshop running smoothly, and build your skills over time.

Training is provided.

What You’ll Do

Workshop Support

  • Support instructors during workshops

  • Assist participants one-on-one during forging

  • Reinforce instructions and help participants stay on track

  • Step in to support participants who need extra guidance

Setup, Cleanup & Flow

  • Set up tools, materials, and workstations before workshops

  • Handle cleanup and reset between and after sessions

  • Keep stations organized and ready throughout the workshop

  • Help maintain a smooth flow from start to finish

Safety & Awareness

  • Monitor participants during active workshops

  • Flag safety concerns or risks immediately

  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and controlled environment at all times

Studio Organization & Supplies

  • Help keep tools, materials, and shared spaces organized

  • Monitor supplies and flag when items are running low, including:

    • First aid supplies

    • Water and safety gear

    • Metal stock and consumables

  • Support basic shop organization and upkeep

 

What We’re Looking For

Experience

  • Basic experience with Jewelry making, blacksmithing, metalworking, or related hands-on trades

  • Comfort working with tools, heat, and physical materials

  • Willingness to learn Axcadmy’s tools, workflows, and teaching style

 

Approach

  • Clear and direct communicator

  • Approachable and calm in a group setting

  • Attentive and aware of what’s happening around you

  • Comfortable teaching beginners and working with a wide range of people

  • Reliable, punctual, and consistent

 

Availability

  • Workshops run at least 4 days per week:
    Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

  • Availability to work 2-5 days a week, including weekends

 

Training & Interview Process

  • Training is provided for tools, workshop flow, and safety

  • Shortlisted candidates will complete a paid trial shift as part of the interview process

 

Compensation

  • Hourly rate to be shared during the interview process

 

Physical & Environmental Considerations

  • Standing for extended periods

  • Working around heat, sparks, and noise

  • Lifting and moving tools and materials

 

What Success Looks Like

  • Participants feel supported, safe, and confident throughout the workshop

  • Workshops run smoothly behind the scenes with strong support for instructors and overall flow

  • Tools, materials, and supplies are consistently organized, maintained, and ready for use

  • Proactively identifies when tools or materials need replenishing, maintenance, or repair

  • Demonstrates and models strong safety practices at all times
